Temporary Shelter

The doors of the Crisis Nursery (for children newborn to age 12) and Teen House (ages 12-17), are always open.  Stepping inside each, there is a welcoming warm feeling, a home where the individual needs of children are met amidst a group setting.  In these two safe houses, 20 boys and girls find a calming place, where structure and the group effort required to maintain a home are often introduced for the first time.

An array of experienced professional staff can be found in both the Crisis Nursery and Teen House.  The full time team includes trained social workers who meet regularly with kids in group and individual sessions to pinpoint the personal challenges they face.  Together, the counselors and kids develop an individualized plan that emphasizes healing the personal growth.  Around the clock, on-site counselors work to help children meet their personal goals and, like most parents, supervise activities, appointments, meals, chores and “down time” for each resident.

In addition to the comprehensive care that meets a wide range of medical, educational and social needs, each boy and girl staying at Kids in Crisis is able to participate in social and recreational activities that can make a child’s world come alive.

Over the years, the Teen House and Crisis Nursery have been home to thousands of children in Fairfield County.  Following their stay at Kids in Crisis, each child knows the opportunities they can experience and their importance in the world.
